What is the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO)?
According to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the NYISO is an organization that operates the state's bulk electricity grid. In addition, it also administers New York's competitive wholesale electricity markets, conducts comprehensive long-term planning for the state's electric power system, and advances the technological infrastructure of the electric system serving the Empire State.

Reduce Grid Demand in Critical Times
At the forefront of NYISO's innovative grid management initiatives is the Special Case Resource (SCR) program, designed to maintain grid stability and efficiency. The SCR program invites businesses to become active participants in energy management, contribute to grid reliability during critical times, while receiving financial compensation even on standby.
When operating reserves fall short or other system emergencies occur, the NYISO will call for a load reduction. The SCR program is active year-round 24/7 with day-ahead notice by 3:00 p.m. or 24 hours. Our role at NOCO is to make things easy for you. We'll facilitate enrollment and provide you with notifications regarding event and program changes.

When you participate in SCR, your business will receive capacity payments for reducing your load. In addition to the capacity payments outlined in your contract.
By participating in SCR, you will also have access to NOCO's Active Management Platform (AMP) at no additional cost. This advanced tool generates detailed reports and provides critical insights into forecasted load, actual load, and real-time pricing to help you strengthen your energy strategy.
